Alianza Ibero Americana

Who we are

Objectives

  1. To further the interests or benefit the Iberian-Americans residing in the UK particularly London, without distinction of sex, sexual orientation, ethnicity or of political, religious or other opinions by associating together voluntarily and other organizations in a common effort to raise its profile.
  2. To promote Human Rights, particularly for those of Iberian-American origin, by obtaining redress for the victims of human rights abuse and promoting respect for human rights among individuals and organisations
  3. To promote sustainable development for the benefit of Iberian Americans in the UK by:

a)   The promotion of preservation, conservation and the protection of the environment and the prudent use or resources.

b)   The promotion of relief of poverty and the improvement of the conditions of life in socially and economically disadvantaged communities.

c)   The promotion of sustainable means of achieving economic growth and regeneration.

Vision

Our vision is to see Iberian-Americans (including their descendants) living in the UK, being a community with a clear identity fully participating and contributing to the development and sustainability of the greater community where they live.

Mission

Raising the profile of Iberian-Americans in the UK and promoting the common interests shared by all its members highlighting the positive contribution they make to their wider community through public education, co-ordinated campaigning, networking and sharing ideas and strategies and providing a single voice in the media and government.

 Current Campaign

  1. Recognition: Iberian Americans want to be classified as a ‘separate ethnic group’; the current census classification does not recognise their presence. Alongside this, they want research to be carried out to determine their approximate numbers in the capital. This information will enable local authorities and others to tailor resources to meet known needs.
  2. Respect:
  3. Regularisation: Iberian Americans are eager to support the Mayor of London comments on an Amnesty for all those without leave to remain in Britain. Those ‘sin papeles’ (without the appropriate paperwork to stay) often live in fear, and are open to various forms of exploitation because of their status. It is believed that an amnesty will enable them to play more of a role in society – pay taxes, vote and carry out other civic responsibilities.

Membership

The Alliance welcomes as members any group, organization or individual sharing its vision without treating less favorably anyone on the ground of race, colour, national origin, religion, political orientation, beliefs, sex, age, sexuality, status or circumstances and is fully committed to equal opportunities when producing policies and procedures in recruitment and serving the community.

The Alliance will treat all people with equal respect, concern and consideration, recognising the contribution made to the community by all individual organizations and their members.
